Romanian Prayer: Missionaries to Eastern Europe

There’s something powerful stirring in Romania. A spiritual current is rising, reaching deep into the roots of this resilient nation, and we believe it’s time to pray that revival into reality.

As part of Pray on Location, our team recently journeyed into the heart of Romania to stand on its soil, honor its past, and intercede for its future. From the memory of the 1989 revolution to the courage of voices like Richard Wurmbrand and Lazio Tokes, Romania is a nation built on bold, unshakable faith. Now, once again, we sense God calling His people to rise.

The Courage of Romania’s Past

Romania is no stranger to spiritual opposition. During the oppressive years of communism, many paid the ultimate price for their faith. One of the most powerful stories comes from Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, founder of Voice of the Martyrs. In 1945, as communism took hold, Wurmbrand stood up in a Soviet-led religious congress and denounced the partnership between church and communism. For this, he was imprisoned and tortured for 14 years—but his faith never wavered. His testimony continues to inspire believers around the world.

Then, in 1989, the bold resistance of Lazio Tokes, a Hungarian Reformed pastor, sparked a revolution. When authorities tried to silence him, the people formed a human shield around his home. That moment lit the flame that would topple an entire regime. This is the kind of faith Romania carries—one that cannot be shaken.

Praying Into Romania’s Calling

We believe that Romania’s past victories are only the beginning. As we prayed in Bucharest, we asked the Lord to raise up a new generation of Romanian believers—those who will be bold, truth-telling, and full of love. There is a divine assignment on this nation.

We see Romania as a sending nation—one that will carry the gospel torch into neighboring regions like Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Russia. These countries, struggling under the weight of conflict, spiritual darkness, and political unrest, desperately need the kind of hope that Romania has already fought for and won.

God is calling the Romanian church to rise again, to send out missionaries, to nurture house church movements, and to proclaim Jesus as the source of lasting freedom.

A Prophetic Prayer for Romania

In our video, we pray these words over the Romanian people:

“Lord Jesus, we bless Romania. Reward the faith of those who persevered under great suffering. Maintain and expand the freedom Romania has fought and died for. We declare Romania is going to the next level. Send the believers here as missionaries to the world. Bulgaria, Russia, and Ukraine need the message Romanian believers carry.”

This isn’t just a hope—it’s a faith declaration rooted in Romania’s history and God’s promises.

“Strengthen their shield of faith that no lies from the enemy may linger. Embolden their mouths to declare truth… We are not looking for a fight, but You call us to disciple nations.”
